It's definitely a "resort" restaurant, and as such it's expensive, but at least the food is generally excellent... ...and the open air seating, the pool-side bar, and the few steps to Kalapaki Beach make the visit worthwhile! The Kalbi steak is really good, and their Chef's "soup of the day" is also usually excellent. If you're lucky, you'll get the Crab Bisque which is to die for!! It has a somewhat "asian" flavor to the food, and any of the noodle dishes are worth trying, as is the crusted Ahi tuna.
From the bar, the specialty drinks are always fun to try... ...and on our last visit, Ben Stiller's movie "Tropic Thunder" was shooting on the island, so Mommy got a Tropic Thunder pomegranate cocktail that was awesome! They also have an all you can eat buffet breakfast and dinner, with a Sunday Champagne breakfast version, and a Monday night "Luau" dinner version (kids under 15 are half-price, and keiki's under 5 are FREE)... ...again, it's on the expensive side, but for resort food, it's really good! Paying $40 for a small piece of fish on a pretty plate isn't one of Daddy's favorite pastimes, but we think Kukui's is worth the splurge! |
